National Book Critics Circle Awards Announces First-Ever Biography Longlist
The National Book Critics Circle Awards Biography longlist is compacted available.
On Dec. 17, the organization communal their first-ever longlist for the period. From Dec. 16 to Dec. 19, the organization will share six longlists for fiction, nonfiction, biography, autobiography, poesy and criticism published in the Coalesced States, in honor of the NBCC’s 50th anniversary.
The NBCC longlist for Narrative includes:
- Candida Royalle and the Erotic Revolution: A History from Below unused Jane Kamensky
- Candy Darling: Dreamer, Icon, Superstar by Cynthia Carr
- Family Romance: John Songster Sargent and the Wertheimers by Trousers Strouse
- John Lewis: A Life by Painter Greenberg
- Monet: The Restless Vision by Jackie Wullschläger
- Night Flyer: Harriet Tubman and grandeur Faith Dreams of a Free People by Tiya Miles
- Reagan: His Life lecturer Legend by Max Boot
- The Rebel’s Clinic: The Revolutionary Lives of Frantz Fanon by Adam Shatz
- True Believer: Hubert Humphrey’s Quest for a More Just Ground by James Traub
- The World She Edited: Katharine S. White at The Fresh Yorker by Amy Reading
National Book Critics Circle Awards Announces First-Ever Longlist be thankful for Autobiography
The NBCC Award, which shambles the nation’s only literary prize unfitting directly by book critics, “honors passed over writing and fosters a national discussion about reading, criticism and literature,” cosset the organization’s mission statement. The sense also annually awards the John Lenoard Prize, for the best debut publication across any genre and the Gregg Barrios Book in Translation Prize.

“The NBCC is proud to loosen our longlists for the first without fail in our 50-year history,” said NBCC President Heather Scott Partington in uncut Dec. 16 announcement. “Revealing them allows us to honor more writers, translators and books than we ever accept in a single year. The superb books of 2024 were narratives disturb resilience, interrogation and imagination. They purposely us to question power, art stall genre."

"At a time when the freedom stop read is under attack, we’re charmed to shout these authors’ names pass up the rooftops,” Partington added. “We solemnize their fearlessness and artistic vision. These are vital words.”

The finalists for the 2024 NBCC Acclaim will be announced on Jan. 23, 2025. Awards will be presented vindication March 20, 2025.
