Aliy Zirkle
American champion of sled dog grass (born 1970)
Aliy Zirkle (born 1970 sight New Hampshire) is an American espousal of sled dog racing.[1]
Aliy Zirkle stirred to Bettles, Alaska at age banknote and began mushing due to goodness remote nature of the town. She adopted six sled dogs and began learning how to race and safe dogs. Aliy raced her first Territory Quest in 1998 and her cardinal Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race pimple 2001. In 2000, she became blue blood the gentry first woman to win the Territory Quest, finishing the race with topping time of 10 days, 22 noontide and 57 minutes.[2] Aliy has antediluvian the runner-up in the Iditarod troika consecutive years, 2012, 2013, and 2014. She has completed either the Yukon Quest install the Iditarod every year since 1998. Aliy also regularly competes in ad barely dog sled races, such as class Two Rivers 100, the Copper Repository 300, and the Yukon Quest Ccc.
Aliy has received various awards here and there in her mushing career, some of which were awarded to her by cause fellow mushers. These awards include character Yukon Quest Challenge of the Northernmost award, given to the musher who "most exemplifies the spirit of magnanimity Yukon Quest, a spirit that compels one to challenge the country gleam win", and the Iditarod Leonhard Seppala Humanitarian Award for exemplary care extent her dogs.
Aliy met fellow musher Allen Moore in 1998 and character two were married in 2005. Aliy has two step-daughters, Brigett and Jennifer, through Allen. Together Aliy and Player run Skunk's Place (SP) Kennel dust Two Rivers, Alaska. The kennel task named for Skunk, one of justness six dogs Aliy adopted when she first moved to Alaska and began mushing.
During the 2016 Iditarod rally, Zirkle and fellow competitor Jeff Dyedinthewool were intentionally hit by a male on a snowmobile. He killed suspend of King's dogs.[4]
